The 24th Conference of Parties for climat change, started today in Katowice (Poland). It follows acts of demonstrations in Brussels where around 75.000 people protested in the streets (02/12). A very big signal sent to the different heads of states parties to the Convention. However leaders are described as less ambitious than expected. Indeed, Edouard Philippe (France’s Prime Minister) will be the highest ranking executive amongst European leaders. The road map for this conference is rather important because the objective is to draft the implementation of the Paris agreement. The need is to finalize the agreed guidelines and to specify. The discussions will be focusing on developing transparency reports about green gas emissions, and to track the efforts to better reduce them.
The World Bank already announced to the international community that they will double their investment for the climate. The 2021-2025 action plan for climate will get 200 billion dollars. Such a measure in order to facilitate the shift from fossil fuels economy to more renewable energy sources, especially for the poorest countries. The richest countries allowing such funds to support the developing countries. It is not only about « greening » the economy of the third world states, it is mainly about adapting and facing the inevitable consequences of climate change (for instance rising of sea level affecting the weakest).
